1 BEFORE THE TEACHER STANDARDS AND PRACTICES COMMISSION ‘ 2 OF THE STATE OF OREGON 3 4 5 In the Matter of the | 6 Teaching License of | DEFAULT ORDER 7 JOSEPH BRADLEY MEJDRICH I OF REVOCATION 8 | 9 10 11 On November 27, 2001, the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission issued a l2 Notice of Opportunity for Hearing to Joseph Mej drich, in which the Commission proposed to 13 suspend or revoke the teaching license of Joseph Mej drich or otherwise impose discipline 14 under ORS 342.177. The notice was sent via U.S. First Class Mail and U.S. Certified Mail 15 Receipt #7000 0600 0023 8496 9471 to the address Mr. Mejdrich provided to the 16 Commission. The receipt for the certified mail notice has not been returned to the l7 Commission either signed or as unclaimed. The notice sent via U.S. First Class Mail has not 18 been returned to the Commission. Joseph Mejdrich did not request a hearing. 19 20 The Notice of Opportunity for Hearing, signed by David V. Myton, Executive 21 Director, stated: ‘ 22 If a request for hearing is not received within this 21-day period, your right to 3 23 hearing shall be considered waived unless your failure to request a hearing was ‘ 24 beyond your reasonable control. If you do no request a hearing or if you fail to 25 appear at a hearing, the Commission will adopt an Order of Default which may 26 include the revocation or suspension of your license or other discipline. 27 28 Based on the foregoing, the Commission finds Joseph Mejdrich in default and such 29 default is hereby entered. Joseph Bradley Mejdrich holds a Basic Teaching License with an endorsement 4 in Basic Handicapped Learner II valid through January 21, 2003. He has been licensed by 5 TSPC since July 28, 1995. 6 7 2, In August of 1998, Mejdrich was hired as a Special Education Teacher at Forest 8 Grove High School and served in that capacity during the 1998-1999 school year. 9 10 3. On October 24, 2000, the district placed Mejdrich on administrative leave 11 pending an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct including rape and sexual 12 assault. On February 21, 2001, Mejdrich resigned from his employment with the district. l3 14 3. In 1999 and 2000, Joseph Mejdrich had sexual contact with two former Forest 15 Grove High School Special Education students. This contact consisted of visiting EG and .16 SR at EG’s apartment and having sexual intercourse.
