On or about April 30, 1997, the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission received
information that Steven Edward Sherman had plead "no contest" and was convicted of
one count of Rape III and two counts of Sodomy III in Wheeler County Circuit Court.
These crimes involved two female high school students. The Executive Secretary took
action to notify Sherman of intent to revoke his Oregon Teaching License, and to
inform him of his opportunity for hearing.
The notice was dated May 12, 1997, and signed by David V. Myton, Executive
Secretary. Mr. Sherman did not request a hearing.
FINDINGS OF FACT
‘ 1. Steven Edward Sherman holds a Basic Teaching License endorsed in social
' studies and valid from March l, 1994 to August 14, 1997.
2. On April 30, 1997, Sherman plead "no contest" and was convicted of one count
of Rape III and two counts of Sodomy III in Wheeler County Circuit Court.
Sherman was sentenced t0 54 months at the Snake River Correctional
Institution.
3. These crimes involved two female high school students in Spray School District
where Sherman was employed as a teacher.
ULTIMATE FINDINGS OF FACT
Steven Edward Sherman plead "no contest" and was convicted of one count of Rape
III and two counts of Sodomy III in Wheeler County Circuit Court on April 30, 1997.
CONCLUSIONS OF LAW
Under ORS 342.175 conviction for the crimes of Rape III and Sodomy III requires the
Commission to revoke the license of an educator.
